Welcome to Thomas Jefferson Elementary School! Thank you for visiting with us. We are so excited to begin the 2017-18 school year! School faculty and staff have eagerly participated in professional learning activities over the summer to enhance the educational experiences for all students. We are life-long learners and seek continual improvement in the best practices and innovative instructional strategies that promote student learning.
Our mission is to provide all students with a world-class and student focused education that ensures college and career readiness. The Jefferson staff and I assure you that we are here to work with you and your child to ensure a safe and productive learning experience. We strive to provide all students with the highest quality academic program in an innovative, caring environment.
Leadership is also a key component of what makes our school a great place to learn and grow. We encourage our students to see themselves as leaders who can make a difference. We foster a culture of shared leadership incorporating the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. We hope these skills will develop into habits helping your child succeed in school and life. Additionally, we want to engage students in learning and allow them to collaborate, communicate, think critically, be creative, explore and innovate. Also important is to build relationships with you as families because we believe together we can achieve more.
Jefferson Elementary School has an enrollment of approximately 450 students in grades K - 5. The average class size is about 20 students. Our staff, consisting of 22 classroom teachers and specialists in the areas of art, literacy, library, music, and physical education is assisted by over a dozen dedicated teaching assistants. Support services include a school counselor, special education teachers, speech therapist, and a full-time nurse. Technology is an important component of the educational program. Each classroom is equipped with a SMART Board, document camera, laptops and grades 3 - 5 have one to one student computers. Additionally, the Library Media Center is dedicated to fostering a love of literature as well as promoting skills in accessing and applying information. All students (K-5) receive Coding instruction and STEM Maker Space through the Library rotation which fosters a culture of creativity and discovery.
We look forward to your support and involvement. You are encouraged to participate in our PTO and join us for special activities. Please visit our website again as we continue to work together to utilize the potential of technology to share information about our school program.
