As we begin the 2021-2022 school year, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little bit about my journey in education. I am Sara Leimkuhler, (pronounced lime-cooler), and I am so excited to be the new Associate Principal at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School!
I began my educational career in 2009 after graduating from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's of Art (Major in Studio Art and Minor in Education). My first year of teaching consisted of some interim positions at an elementary school and a middle school in Hawkins and Sullivan county. I then taught elementary Art in Sullivan County at both Kingsley Elementary and Miller Perry Elementary before joining Kingsport City Schools to teach at Innovation Academy. At Innovation Academy, I was the Multimedia instructor but also worked collaboratively with other teachers to create cross curricular, project based learning units. My journey then led me to John F. Kennedy Elementary where I taught Art and hosted before and after school STREAM Club for 2 years. I joined D-B EXCEL in 2015 where I taught Digital Arts and served as the school’s PBL coordinator. I also began taking on other leadership roles that led me to go back to school and earn my Master's of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from East Tennessee State University in May of 2020. I am currently pursuing my Educational Specialist degree from the University of Tennessee. This summer I knew I was ready to seek a leadership role and that led me to apply and accept the Associate Principal position at Jefferson Elementary School!
On a personal note, I am married to a wonderful man, Hayden, who is a firefighter for Kingsport. We do not have any children but we have 5 amazing rescue dogs that we love dearly. I also come from a big family; I have 5 older brothers! They have blessed me with 3 nieces and 3 nephews. I love being an aunt! When I'm not working I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching sports, working on our property (we live on about 4 acres), photography and doing anything creative.
I hope this gives you a little glimpse of who I am. I look forward to meeting you and being a part of the Jefferson Jaguar family! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or anything that I can help you with throughout the school year. I can’t wait to see all of our students GLOW this year!
